Sourced from the cool, elevated slopes of the Smith Vineyard, planted in 1978, this wine was fermented and matured for 18 months in new and used French oak. The wine went through partial mlf. This wine is all about precision, tension, and layered complexity. There's the hallmark citrus and white stone fruit, beautifully integrated oak, and that signature mineral drive we love from this site.

The power, intensity and depth of the wine, also comes from the super low yielding 2023 vintage. Ripe white nectarine/peach is offset by grapefruit pith and flinty acidity.

Light and vibrant yellow in the glass. The first nose is all toasty smoky oak and reductive notes, with almond meal and backgound grapefruit/citrus, and these themes are repeated on palate, although there the fruit is uppermost. Traces of toffee and peanut brittle, a note of buttery croissant. The wine is powerfully concentrated and searingly intense, but all the while retaining its finesse. Such intensity and drive is almost shocking. Endless length. A great chardonnay."

A scintillating chardonnay purity on show here from a vintage that goes down as one of Beechworth's coldest growing seasons and vintages. It fairly crackles in racy acidity and tangy acid drive. Up to the challenge is a fruit profile that adds flesh and character with a world of citrus explored – citrus blossom florals, Meyer lemon, grapefruit, lime zest – with quince, white peach and Asian pear. Built on a fine-etched, sherbet-like acidity, it finishes on a high with a lasting flinty kick."
