2020 Sauvignon Blanc, Mornington Peninsula
Fruit sourced from the Mornington Peninsula and made in a Fume' style. Fermented and aged on lees in a large oval cask for 12 months prior to bottling, this wine is all about texture rather than aromatics. A hint of struck match on the nose adds to the complexity.
With no chardonnay or sangiovese made in Beechworth in the 2020 vintage due to smoke taint, winemaker Mark Walpole sourced fruit from the Mornington Peninsula. Made in the fumé style, fermented and aged on lees in a large oval cask for 12 months, the result is a textural treat, restrained and complex. Gunflint, grapefruit, peach skin and citrus with a light smokiness prevailing. Would work well with a range of food - 91 points."
