Product Details

The grapes were hand-picked, destemmed, crushed and fermented in small stainless-steel vats. Fermentation temperatures were controlled to retain the varieties unique aromatics and avoid the extraction of excessive tannin. The wine was then aged for 24 months in seasoned 600L thick staved demi-muids.

The 2019 Aglianco is a medium to full bodied wine, with firm but fine-grained tannins; and good acidity. Classical varietal aromas of fennel, aniseed Dutch liquorice and fragrant red fruits.

Wine review

Remember the name – pronounced "alli-yan-nico" – because you certainly won't forget the taste. Each release just gets better and better. A deep dive into a Southern Italian grape big in personality, matching friendliness with solid, straight-back tannin and acid, the grape's specialty. Black berries, black cherry, dried cranberry, allspice, licorice and earth, dressed in savoury tannins and dry to close, makes for one big leap forward for the grape in this country." - 95 points from Jeni Port for Halliday Wine Companion.

Deep, bold dark red with a brick-red rim; the bouquet enshrines blackberry and cassis primary fruit, a hint of mint among an array of balsamic herbs, as well as roasting-pan aromas of gathering bottle-age complexity. The wine is medium-full bodied, concentrated and sinewy with tension and grip, the finish lingering on with some blackberry jam hints and the faintest touch of (acceptable) bitterness in the tannins. Long carry. An impressive attempt at a difficult grape." - 93 points from Huon Hooke for The Real Review.
