Over the past decade, rosé has undergone a remarkable transformation in the minds of Australian wine drinkers. Once dismissed as a simple, sweet, poolside quaffer, it is now widely recognised as a serious and expressive style, capable of nuance, savouriness, and genuine complexity. Consumers have become more discerning, seeking dry, food-friendly rosés that reflect variety, place, and winemaking intent. It’s a shift we’ve embraced wholeheartedly at Fighting Gully Road.
While Provence has undoubtedly shaped the Australian rosé landscape, the surge in ultra-pale, “manufactured-to-a-style” wines has left many drinkers wanting more: More flavour, more texture, more personality. At the same time, Australia continues to produce rosés that rival some of the best in the world, particularly those made from Mediterranean varieties that naturally lend themselves to savoury, structured winemaking. This is where our style sits, and where our passion lies.
Our upcoming 2025 Rosé is the next step in our ongoing pursuit to craft a rosé with true character, dry, vibrant, textural, and unmistakably from Beechworth. Made from varieties chosen for their natural savoury drive and freshness, the wine offers far more than a blush of colour. It’s designed for people who love rosé not just for summer sipping, but for its versatility at the table and its ability to express terroir with elegance and restraint.
To elevate complexity, the wine is fermented in seasoned 500-litre French oak puncheons, where it then rests on its fermentation lees for five months. This gentle maturation builds layers of texture and mouthfeel, bringing subtle savouriness and a delicate richness to the palate, elements that set it apart from the overly pristine and feather-light rosés dominating parts of the market.
For this release, we’re unveiling a new visual identity: the striking Vin Grand Cru “Zebra” bottle. Its distinctive sculptural lines and premium weight give the wine a presence that matches its personality: Elegant, modern, and uncompromising. This bottle is widely used by European producers, and we’re excited to bring this contemporary aesthetic into our range.
The new bottle design not only elevates the presentation of the wine but reinforces our commitment to producing rosé at the same level of craft, detail, and ambition as our most celebrated varietals. It’s a bottle worthy of what’s inside.
This 2025 release is our invitation to rediscover what rosé can be. For drinkers who crave the charm and romance of sipping rosé under a shady pergola on the Riviera…but want something with true flavour, texture, and personality – this wine brings that dream a little closer to home. We can’t wait to share it with you.
